She gave details on the single such as the meaning behind the lyrics, “Basically the song is kind of about looking for answers in life, for a purpose in life, and I feel like people, especially these days, can relate to it. Sometimes when you’re always kind of on that roll, you kind of forget to take care of what actually matters to you most, and it’s just a song that says that everything we need is already within us. There’s no need to go out and look for it.”

One thing that I will always find fascinating about K-pop is the fact that its music industry is so systematized and organized in a way that is vastly different from mainstream music. It has different sets of principles and processes which may come off as confusing especially for fans of the new generation. One of […]

One of the confusing stuff new fans or even old fans may still encounter are the different album types.. But if the album is from a group, which member’s photocard you may get is all by chance.. Definitely the most common album type out there is the mini album.. A mini album usually has the title track and at least one ballad/slow track.. Some mini albums also have intro songs, which last for around one minute, and instrumental versions of the title tracks.. Studio album, otherwise known as full-length album, is less common than mini albums in K-pop.. Another thing I’ve noticed about some studio albums is that they usually contain title songs from mini albums/single albums that were released prior to the said studio album.. While mini albums are more common than studio albums, mini album repackages are very unusual.. Just like studio album repackages, these are albums which add two to three more tracks on top of its original mini album, with a new title track.. The main difference of single albums from the other types of albums is that it only consists of two to four songs.. This may come in either single, mini, or studio albums.. The way it differs is that you play the music not by using a CD, but using the Kihno device and a gadget with a Kihno player and earphone jack.. Note that no album is released only in Kihno format; it’s just like a different version or variant of the original album.

These records serve as reminders that K-pop is always worth exploring further, that B-sides exist that match the strength of lead singles.

The two trilogies that shaped them as an act — I Am and Clé — dealt with a different kind of growing pain, which makes the timing for their first full length album, GO生, pretty perfect.. With so much emphasis put on concept-focused singles, even the most solid of K-pop albums frequently only boast one song meant to impact the charts.. The album surprises with each track: “Elevator,” which kicks off the album by harking back to the feel-good flavor of 90’s dance-pop, is delightfully light.. From boy band member to breakout MC to behind-the-scenes music producer, Cho Seung-youn has lived many different lives in the K-pop scene, but the determined star truly came into his own as a multitalented, multifaceted artist with his first solo EP released as WOODZ.. The haunting intro “LIFT UP” sees the singer utilizing octave-dropping voice effects and piercing belts to declare his overarching message: “Don’t look back anymore, I’m not done.”That ambitious mindset comes through in the whistle hook-laden throbber of a single “Love Me Harder,” alt-R&B stunner “NOID,” atmospheric cut “Waikiki,” and in the calming ballad “memories.” But the avant-garde hip-hop standout “BUCK’” might embody WOODZ’s outlook best, as he and rapper Punchnello yell that “Life is short!. No other K-pop album this year felt so refined, so real, so invigorating in its portrayal of the capacity for human emotions.

Navigate your way through the wonderful world of K-pop.

If you tell someone you’re a K-pop fan, be prepared to answer the inevitable question, “Who’s your bias?” In a group, there may be anywhere between four and 13 members, but your bias is simply your favorite.. Same goes for a “bias group”—it’s the group you love the most in K-pop.. It’s a common term K-pop fans use to describe the one member of the group who makes you question your love for your declared bias.. It’s the equivalent of saying a group is releasing a new album, but instead K-pop fans say that a group is having a comeback.. Behind every K-pop group is a dedicated fan club, big or small, and they play a vital role in a group’s success.. When a group gets big enough, its fans earn an official fan club name and color.. In Korea fans sometimes officially register with a group’s fan club, but it’s not necessary to do so to become a member.. You’ll hear K-pop stars use them with each other, and fans use them in regards to their idols.. In Korea there are four major music shows and two smaller ones where idols promote new songs by performing live.. A simple definition of the term would be a “citizen of the net.” In K-pop there’s netizens and there’s K-netizens, the former being any international fan online and the latter being Korean fans online.. While netizens show their support online through many different campaigns such as trending Twitter hashtags or rallying other fans to rack up views on groups’ music videos, some also earn a bad reputation on different K-pop news outlets.
